If you are an attorney looking to volunteer with one of our pro bono legal clinics, you can find information on specific volunteer opportunities below:

  • Basic Wills and Estate Planning Clinic: assists low-income individuals in preparing basic estate planning documents such as a basic will, power of attorney for finances, or power of attorney for health care. Attorneys assist individuals at bi-monthly clinics held on Saturdays.

  • Municipal Defense Project: works to de-criminalize homelessness within the City of Madison by assisting community members experiencing homelessness in responding to municipal tickets they disproportionately receive due to their housing insecurity. Attorneys sign up for an “on-call” month during which they provide direct representation for individuals at one of our MDP clinics hosted in conjunction with the City Attorneys office.

  • Survivors Legal Program: provides pro bono legal representation to survivors of sexual assault, compassionately assisting them on their journey to justice. Attorneys will be paired with a survivor and assist them throughout their case – whether it’s an academic disciplinary hearing, pursuing criminal charges, or filing for a restraining order.

  • Foreclosure Defense Project: protects homeowners facing foreclosure with legal defense to prevent homelessness. Attorneys can contact CJI to find out more about this opportunity.

  • Bankruptcy Assistance Program: provides guidance to individuals who are confused about their best financial options. Attorneys can contact CJI to find out more about this opportunity.

  • Other Opportunities:

    • Trans Law Help Wisconsin – CJI is the host site to a clinic that assists our transgender community members secure legal name changes. More info can be found here.
